The trip has started at unreasonable 7 AM. No one from the group known, but positive attitude maintained at all times. Turned out the group was ideal Bezos’ two pizza team, easy to make decisions with and keep on moving. The trip as planned was taken through Atlas mountains at the hight of 2260 m on Tfizi n’Tichka pass, Ait Ben Haddou UNESCO heritage site and movies set, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, grand Boumalne Dades and eventually to Merzouga with its Erg Chebbi sand dunes.
While it was one of the most organized part of my seven days Morocco trip, I must admit it is both views and people, local and visitors like myself, that made it memorable. It was by far the best night sky I have ever seen in my life. After a few approaches and only one more or less reasonable picture, I finally gave up and started counting falling starts instead. While camel ride is far from being as comfortable as horse riding, worth trying at least once in your life. Same as singing with Berbers near campfire in as many languages as there were people with different nationalities. The best to my liking was Irish guys’ performance of “Rattlin’ bog”. I am still trying to figure out how they managed it all in one breath.
The night in the desert was cold, so was the morning, but no low temperatures could influence the excitement.
All worth it.
